Starting from the only game that I watched, the Red Devils were lucky to have gotten away with a tie against the dragons of Porto. Despite the fact that Porto equalized only a few minutes before the end of the game, they were by far the better side on the field. Rio Ferdinand’s absence is a blow for United. The final 2-2 makes Porto favorites since they have never been beaten from a British team in Porto. Do not write off United though.
The Yellow Submarines of Villareal drew a 1-1 against the Gunners. The two teams had one half each, with Villareal scoring with a long volley from Sena and Arsenal equalizing with an unbelievable goal from Adebayor. A goal that makes Arsenal the favorites for the second game in Emirates Stadium.
The upset of the day was at Anfield Road where the recently in-good form Liverpool lost to Chelsea (or should i say Chevski?) 1-3. Not too much about the game, other that I found it a big upset for two reasons. Chelsea beat Liverpool away and there were more than 2 goals scored in the game. Chelsea are the firm favorites but never underestimate the heart of the Reds who have proven in the past that they are the team that can turn around any game.
Barcelona plays the most attractive football on the planet right now. Scoring 4 goals in 40 minutes in a quarter final Champions League game against a German team (Bayern Munich that is, and not any German team) proves my point. Leonel Messi is by far the best player right now, and he is the closest one could ever get to Diego Maradona. Barcelona are already in the next phase, where they will face either Chelsea or Liverpool. I believe that they are firm favorites to win the tournament.
